![]() Chanukah memorializes the small army of Jews that defeated the mighty Greek Army in the second century BCE. Chanukah is an eight-day festival of lights that is celebrated by a nightly menorah lighting, special prayers, and foods (fried). The Jewish do not celebrate Christmas, but instead, celebrate a holiday know as Chanukah (Hanukkah). The stuff that we complain about that makes us fat is probably exactly the stuff we want. We appreciate the names: Michael, Kate, Louis. ![]() Boots/ BootiesĪ girl can never have enough of those either - Christmas is a great excuse for another pair! 12. Photo by Uliana Kopanytsia on Unsplash 11. If you're shopping for a close friend, then this is something you should look into, because a girl can never have enough bras. Mugs, travel mugs, and coffee itself are all important to us. Also, if you are shopping for a significant other, just listen to Bey! 5 for $25Īlex & Ani and Pandora are always popping. Joggers, sweatshirts, half zips, hoodies. They're for a good cause and they're cute, so why not purchase one? 5. Happy Holidays to all, and a happy New Year as well! I hope that with these holidays all of my friends and family get tons of love from their favorite people, and I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season. And the best part is, they only come around in the wintertime, so they’re just that much better because they’re limited time only! Zillions of Hugs and Kisses Apple Cider is my favorite, as I’ve previously mentioned, but everything else is amazing, too. Yummy Holiday Drinks and DessertsĮggnog, hot chocolate, fruitcake and cookies are some very delicious things to eat and drink during the holidays. Turns out, X is the Greek letter “chi,” the initial letter in the word Χριστός. I bet you’ve never sat back and wondered what the X in the abbreviation for Christmas is. Thankfully, we have winter break, which every student is incredibly thankful for. Winter Breakīy the time the end of the first semester comes around, students everywhere NEED a break, or else they will go crazy. My cousins are so special to me, and I am so thankful for them. During the holidays, though, we all come together and spend days at a time with each other. My family is very important to me, but unfortunately, they live all over the place, so I don’t get to see them a lot. (But I am thankful for any present, whether it’s wrapped or in a bag). There’s something that makes receiving gifts so much better when it’s wrapped, as opposed to just in a bag. When I get a wrapped present for any holiday, I get so much joy out of tearing off the paper. It’s so cool to me to hear what people’s traditions are and how they came about. My cousin’s family makes a different kind of dessert every night from Christmas Eve to New Year’s Eve. As I mentioned previously, my family goes to New York. TraditionsĮvery family has a different tradition for the holidays, and I find it so intriguing to learn about everyone’s special tradition. Plus a few snow days from school every now and then never hurt. ![]() I think it’s so beautiful and fresh and smells so good, and I catch myself waking up every morning in the winter hoping it snows that day. Now that I am older, everyone just thinks it’s a hassle, but I still love it to no end. ![]() I have such a fondness in my heart for snow. The message from this movie is so important to me, and I think Rudolph is just adorable. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is my all-time favorite Christmas movie I could watch it over and over and over again. Hopefully, you draw inspiration from the falling of autumn leaves as time passes (meaning, therefore, memories have been made and friendships formed with time). And maybe you will see the beauty in having a purpose, in the comforting routine and familiar faces as you and I settle into our weekly schedules. That college will be great and fun and everything-including stressful and hard, complex and different. So, I promise you (but maybe I just want to assure myself subconsciously) that it will be okay. Academia rings out from the pitter-patter of my keys and happiness emanates from the small polaroids, laughter and love frozen in time. ![]() I also love that I type pensively from my cube, glancing up from my screen to find a collection of photos from times past. And now I share the sentiments of my older siblings, cousins, and friends who have relayed stories of their late-night struggles countless times. Stress is easy to collect but hard to overcome, and in my experience thus far, an enthusiasm for learning counteracts that stress and keeps the spirits high. I write here and now, procrastinating the completion of a significant amount of reading, but I fear not. I expect that my attitude may falter at times-and yours, too. ![]()
